12-year-old Churcher’s College student, William Lall, this week attended a World Wildlife Fund for Nature (WWF) lecture at The Royal Institution in London. The talk ‘Where the World Turns’ was hosted by Naturalist Steve Backshall and included speakers from the British Antarctic Survey and the CEO of Sky Broadcasting. He had great discussions with Steve Backshall and Jack Harries, the Founder of Extinction Rebellion, about raising the profile of the issues around climate change.
William is passionate about nature, works with the WWF providing a young person’s perspective to their campaigns. He said: “I am a big supporter of the work of the WWF and want to do all I can to share the facts about Climate Change and energise people about it. I am also part of our Eco Team at School helping promote the message that we must all take action for our world. Most of all I am very keen to support discussions around Climate Change with young people like me, who will be most affected by it.”
Simon Williams, Headmaster at Churcher’s College, said: “I applaud William’s enthusiasm and his commitment to the WWF and its work. It is a fine example for us all to see a young student following up a firm belief, developing knowledge and understanding by talking to the experts in the field and, as a consequence, considering how best to implement advice and change practices for the good of all”.
William has appeared on WWF’s website and in the wider media. Following the publication of the IPCC Special Report on the Ocean and Cryosphere in a Changing Climate, he was invited to this week’s private event with acclaimed Climate Change luminaries. As part of his work with WWF, William will soon be speaking with their Head of Climate Change at WWF, Gareth Redmond-King.
