4th Year History Trip to Berlin

Over the Christmas break, our 4th Year historians travelled to Berlin: the eye of the storm of the both the Nazi Third Reich and the Cold War.

Everyone gained so much knowledge from our excellent tour guide (the one and only Mr Crossman), who took us all over the city and beyond.

We explored the Reichstag Dome, saw the Brandenburg gate, visited the DDR Museum (where the highlight for pupils was trying out the Trabi cars), walked along the Berlin Wall and saw the ‘death strip’, went into the Jewish memorial and the topography of terror and had an enlightening tour around the 1936 Olympic Stadium.

We also spent a sobering morning at the ‘model’ Sachsenhausen concentration camp, where tens of thousands of prisoners were murdered.

We ended the trip at a beautiful Christmas market which glittered in the night sky. The students were fantastic and, I hope, gained much from a busy 48 hours.
