Coffee, Croissants and Careers

In the Autumn Term 2024, pupils from the upper school through to Sixth Form students took part in a series of morning careers events aimed to give them insights into a range of different businesses, roles and sectors.

BAE Systems

Early in the morning of Friday 18 October almost 30 pupils from 4^th Years through to our Upper Sixth, gathered in the Pavilion for a brilliant morning of short talks and networking with BAE systems representatives. Sally Armstrong, the learning and development lead for BAE Systems, visited with a group of degree apprentices, and graduates working in their early careers programme, across a range of roles in project management, project controls, cyber, software and network engineering. First, Sally presented an overview of the roles available at BAE and then the apprentices shared their career journeys and experiences working there whilst studying for their degrees. We then had time to enjoy breakfast and network, allowing pupils to ask their own questions and get to know more about our visitors and their jobs. We learned an awful lot in a fun and informal settling. We look forward to welcoming Sally and her great team back to our Careers Convention in March 2025.

Careers in Finance

Our second Coffee, Croissants and Careers event on Friday 15^th November was another great success with over 30 volunteer networkers and 40 students in attendance. The students undoubtedly went away with a lot more knowledge and insight with respect to careers in finance, and also with some good networking skills. It was lovely to catch up with some of our regular Careers and HE supporters, and to meet so many newcomers. There is no doubt that a lot of fun was had by everyone and plenty of information gained and relationships made by the time we parted at 9am; it is amazing what you can achieve before/over breakfast!

Wide-Ranging Careers

On Friday 6^th December we had our final ‘Coffee, Croissants and Careers’ breakfast networking event which, having covered engineering and finance in our previous events this term, covered roles away from the more ‘traditional’ careers. Students had the opportunity to chat to networking-volunteers from a wide range of exciting roles – from being a vicar, running the Orient Express and marketing, to charity fundraising, garden design and the vast opportunities in the food and retail sector.
