Pupils Tackle Real-World Disaster Response

The Geography department hosted an engaging and immersive 'H.E.R.O.' (Hazard Emergency Response Organisation) Day.

The event challenged students to respond to a re-creation of the 2010 Haiti earthquake through a hands-on workshop simulating the fast-paced decision-making required in the aftermath of a major natural disaster.

Students were tasked with mapping the disaster zone, assessing the evolving situation, and directing critical relief operations - mirroring the roles of global organizations like the United Nations. The day was filled with excitement and meaningful engagement as they applied their classroom knowledge in a dynamic, real-world scenario.

Building on their current studies of tectonics and prior exploration of international development, students tackled the complexities of post-disaster response.

'H.E.R.O.' Day provided a valuable opportunity for them to connect theoretical concepts with practical applications in an enjoyable and thought-provoking way. This memorable experience also laid the groundwork for more advanced discussions in geography and international development.
