It was with excitement and delight that Churcher’s College won their heat of the English Speaking Union (ESU) public speaking competition, which took place on 6th December 2021, against Christ’s Hospital School, Bishop Luffa, and King’s School.

The Churcher’s B team were the overall winners of the entire competition, and Churcher’s A team were runner up. Both teams will therefore go forward to the branch final of the competition, which takes place at the end of January.

Team A consisted of Matilda, Isabella and Eddie. Matilda delivered a very powerful and passionate speech on the topic of ‘Is gold better than God?’ and the judges noted how impressed they were by her performance. Isabella and Eddie were chair and questioner respectively, performing very strongly in these roles.

For Team B, Jessica spoke on ‘What is a Legacy’, and really wowed the judges with her excellent argument, and the way she handled difficult questions. Her team mates, Mariana and Katie, were extremely assertive in their positions as chair and questioner, and they were judged to be the best team overall in the competition.

We are so proud of both our teams and wish them the very best of luck in the branch final next month!
