Creative Excellence
Whether in the form of fine art canvases, beautifully crafted furniture, computer-aided design, or precision engineering – we encourage our pupils to explore and expand their creative talents. We offer students a rich curriculum of creative subjects at GCSE and A level, designed to inspire, challenge and develop exceptional talent. Visitors consistently comment on the outstanding quality of the work produced by our students and there are always displays in the studios as well as major pieces of work around the school buildings, reinforcing Churcher's Art Dept as a place where students achieve outstanding results.
Art & Design
Our Art & Design Department at Churcher’s is a vibrant and industrious hive of creativity. Students are given the opportunity to use a variety of media including drawing, painting, 3D, photography, pottery and mixed-media.
Students opting to study Art & Design at GCSE and at A level are encouraged to think creatively. We focus on teaching practical skills to a very high level. Alongside, students gain a deeper understanding of Art & Design through exploring the work of a rich mix of historic and contemporary artists.
At exam level the work produced is consistently of an exceptionally high standard. The courses are Fine Art based with the emphasis on encouraging students to work independently but from an informed background, and to develop skills and understanding through challenging projects set by the Art Dept staff.
Design Technology
Design and Technology (D&T) provides students with the opportunity to combine creative flair with practical skills.
Our state-of-the-art D&T department is fully equipped with a Computer Aided Design (CAD) studio, laser cutters, lathes, an overhead router, a design library and research area and digital photography and scanning equipment.
The Art Department at Churcher's nurtures confident, curious thinkers and makers.
