Last term, four dedicated Fifth Year cadets from Churcher’s College CCF—Anneka Greenaway, Fred Taylor, Ollie Hanson, and Hugh Farrell—made their mark at the prestigious Cadet Skill At Arms Meeting (CADSAM), held at the Army Training Centre in Pirbright. This was their inaugural appearance at the event, and the weekend proved to be a thrilling test of their marksmanship skills.
The cadets engaged in four intense shooting events: Advance to Contact, Attack and Reorganisation, Fire Control Assessment, and a high-energy Falling Plate tournament. Each match challenged their precision and agility, requiring them to shoot from varied positions—kneeling, sitting, standing, and prone—across distances ranging from 100 to 300 metres. As an additional challenge, some events included a sprint from 400 to 300 metres, where cadets loaded their weapons and engaged their targets on the go. A highlight was the Falling Plate tournament, where teams raced against the clock to knock down ten plates.
The Churcher’s team clinched a Silver medal in the Attack & Reorg match, securing fourth place among eight competing CCF units. With newfound skills and camaraderie, they look forward to returning next year, aiming for even greater shooting success!
