Performing Arts

Young people join us brimming with possibilities, eager to discover and cultivate their abilities. We offer a vast array of opportunities for them to explore, develop and channel where their passions may lead.

Participation in performing arts activities also builds transferable skills like collaboration, resilience, and self-confidence, which are invaluable for students' personal and professional futures

There is a vast and varied landscape of possibilities for pupils of all abilities to get involved from performances on stage to behind-the-scenes magic, as well as many supra-curricular and extra-curricular activities.

Music

Music is  embedded in the fabric of school culture and community. Whether it is simply for pleasure, or a career ambition, music plays an integral part in the education of all our pupils, from the First Year through to Sixth Form. Supporting the students is a large team of music staff, including 29  peripatetic instrument teachers, enabling this thriving department to flourish and deliver a comprehensive offering.

  • On any given week, there are over 30 rehearsals taking place across all genres of music, we can offer our students' musical experiences that include string quartets, jazz bands, multiple orchestras and choirs, barber shop singers and the ever popular Rock School to name but a few.
  • Concerts take place regularly throughout the year, from lunchtime recitals, cabaret nights, outdoor spectaculars, and further afield in renowned London venues such as Cadogan Hall.
  • There are international choir and orchestra tours every year, further enhancing the wealth of musical experiences for Churcher’s musicians. Recent tours have included Lake Garda, Geneva, Paris, Amsterdam and Barcelona and Bath, Dorset and Cornwall closer to home.

Drama

At Churcher’s we embrace the philosophy that the arts can enrich and change lives. Drama is a thriving department at Churcher’s College, filled with fun, laughter and enjoyment. Offering a unique form of creative expression, drama provides students with unlimited benefits - building confidence, empathy, communication skills, teamwork and collaboration, to name but a few. These are essential, transferable skills for everyday life at school and beyond.

  • All students experience Drama within the curriculum for First, Second and Third Years. Pupils across all year groups are given the opportunity to be involved with whole school productions. GCSE Drama is a popular option: students have the opportunity to create their own work as a performer as well as studying dramatic texts and analysing live performance.
  • The A level course builds upon their skills of performance and analysis, requiring both academic rigour and originality. Students go on to study the Performing Arts at both conservatoires and universities: in recent years, students have progressed to RADA, Guildhall and GSA.
