Fouth Year pupil Mara has been showing off her sewing skills as she writes below:
"Our final Design and Technology project in 3rd Year was to make a pencil roll. I already had previous experience in sewing and had sewn small things like cushions, dolls and bags before, but I had never sewn an item of clothing. For this reason, I decided to challenge myself to sew a coat for this project.
It was a harder task than anything I have sewn before and took a lot longer than the time that we had left in lessons, so with help from my mother, I carried on sewing my coat over the summer holidays, leaving me to hand in the project before my first DT lesson of 4th Year, as I am now taking DT as one of my GCSE options.
As you can see from the finished product, I sewed in a lining and added buttons. I made the buttons myself from a DIY button kit I found whilst clearing up my great grandmother's sewing box. I don't aspire to pursue fashion or sewing as a career, however, I made a pencil roll for myself in the summer between the 2nd year and 3rd year and I felt that having already made the project that my class were undertaking, I would enjoy making something more complex and to be able to stretch my sewing abilities."
A huge well done to Mara!
