On Friday 23 March Churcher’s College marked Founder’s Day with a special annual assembly. Founder’s Day is when the school remembers Richard Churcher, founder and benefactor of the school in 1722. Hosted by Simon Williams, Headmaster, the whole school gathers to reflect philosophically on life today in comparison to 1722, and to celebrate the achievements and successes of pupils throughout the school. This term these included ten Oxbridge offers amongst a whole crop of academic awards; the “quite exceptional” performances by the cast and crew of the recent school production of ‘School of Rock’; 70 LAMDA prize winning pupils at the Godalming Drama and Music Festival including 27 firsts; School Colours for sport, community service, the Combined Cadet Force and music; and Duke of Edinburgh awards. It is also the formal occasion on which those elected to the position of Captains of College (Head Girl and Boy) take over from their predecessors.
