On Tuesday 24 September, Sixth Form politics students visited Parliament and the Supreme Court.
Students met Damien Hinds MP and questioned him on everything from his views on Brexit to what it is like to be an MP. We toured Parliament and visited spaces such as the House of Commons, House of Lords and the Robing Room. In the Robing Room the crown is placed on the King’s head before he delivers his speech during the State Opening of Parliament. Seeing Bills printed on the tables in the Royal Gallery offered students an insight into the process of making law in Parliament. Similarly it was fascinating to learn more about how these laws are tested by visiting the Supreme Court.
It was an enriching day and students left with a greater understanding of the mechanics of government in Westminster.
