Students from the Lower and Upper Sixth recently embarked on an exciting school trip to see Six, the electrifying musical that reimagines the lives of Henry VIII’s six wives.
This dazzling production transforms historical figures into pop icons, allowing them to reclaim their place in the narrative beyond their infamous marriages to the Tudor king. The students were immersed in a unique blend of history and modern music, which brought the past to life. The show’s bold, contemporary approach provided an engaging and thought-provoking experience, challenging the traditional portrayal of these women as being merely defined by their husband.
Although the performance took some creative liberties, incorporating anachronistic elements and an almost concert-like atmosphere, students found themselves captivated by its energy. The musical’s humor and vibrant staging struck a chord with the group, making for a memorable experience that also sparked discussion about historical accuracy versus artistic interpretation.
Recalling their Year 7 Tudor lessons, they relished seeing familiar figures presented in a new light, reinforcing their understanding of the era in an engaging way.
And if there was any doubt about their enjoyment, the enthusiastic dancing at the end left no question—they had an unforgettable time celebrating history with a modern twist.
