Over the May bank holiday weekend Fourth Year Amelia (Fourth Year), Jocelyn (Second Year), Sophia (Second Year) and Aneka (Third Year) competed at the National Eventers Challenge Championships at Hickstead, having qualified at two heights over the last six months.
Eventers Challenge is a mix of show jumps and cross country fences with the aim of going clear over both phases and achieving an undisclosed optimum time. The class sizes were huge with schools from all over the country taking part amounting to 261 entries in the 80/85 class and 176 entries in the 90/95 class. The courses were certainly challenging, too, with difficult lines and many eliminations.
90/95cm Team - Aneka, Jocelyn and Sophia
In the 90/95, Aneka, Jocelyn and Sophia placed an impressive 5th out of 36 school teams, with three double clears. Aneka had qualified as an individual and finished 15th. This is a huge achievement for Team Churcher’s, beating schools such as Dauntseys, Millfield, Mayfield, Cheam, Sidcot, Cheltenham College, Bedes, St Swithun’s, Seaford and many more. This is the second year the school have placed an Equestrian team at 90/95 at the National Championships.
80/85cm Team - Amelia, Jocelyn, Sophia and Aneka
In the 80/85, Amelia, Jocelyn, Sophia and Aneka placed 12th out of 56 school teams, with three double clears. Aneka had also qualified as an individual and finished 26th, in the top 10% of the country for both heights.
The girls and parents proved to be a strong team, showing all the hard work and dedication that goes into preparing for these events, with great support and encouragement for each other. A huge well done.
