Visiting Our Founder

In this world of fast turnover, disposable culture and in-built obsolescence it is a delight to come across something that lasts.

The first official duty of the incoming Captains of College each year is to visit the grave of the Churcher’s College founder, Richard Churcher, in Funtington to lay a wreath and say “thank you”.

According to the records, this has been an annual pilgrimage, certainly since before the 1st World War, if not many decades/centuries before that and Holly Milner and Ben Williams, elected by their peers to be Captains of College for 2019/2020, continued this annual pilgrimage of gratitude, laying a wreath on the tomb which carries an unusually spelt tribute to Richard Churcher.
