Upper Sixth economists attended a London conference, hearing from influential speakers on key economic issues.

Former Chancellor, Ed Balls, opened with a talk on economic growth strategies, Hugh Pym explored the complexities of accessible healthcare and health outcomes within the NHS; Paul Johnson analysed the UK's fiscal policy challenges; Madeleine Sumption presented evidence-based insights on immigration's economic impact; Tim Harford discussed Keynes and Fisher; Grace Blakeley challenged ‘free markets’, advocating for social justice; Mark Littlewood argued for lower taxes, even praising some of Liz Truss's ideas and Kate Raworth concluded proceedings, urging a shift to sustainable economic growth.

Sixth Former, Toby commented:

'The 'commute' into London gave me an insight into what it would be like to work there. Sitting in the centre of the venue it felt rather intimate with the speakers. The best part was the fact there was opinions from across the spectrum which allowed me to reflect and weigh up what my view really was. I felt this is an evaluation skill which can be used in essays. The range of prominent economists which often feature on the TV and podcasts inspired me to further my research of their work (yesterday I watched a lecture from Grace Blakeley).'

The conference provided valuable real-world insights, enriching students' understanding and preparing them for future academic and professional pursuits.
