Devizes to Westminster Canoe Race 2023

The Churcher’s Devizes to Westminster (DW) squad had great success in the 2023 Devizes to Westminster canoe marathon, which took place over Easter weekend. 

The squad, consisting of 16 paddlers, showed themselves to be a resilient, committed and enthusiastic bunch who have shown amazing perseverance throughout the long and arduous training, build up races and the main event. They have taken to the canal and river for increasingly difficult challenges on Sunday mornings since October, sometimes even having to break the ice to put their boat in.

The race itself was unfortunately cut short due to dangerous conditions on the Thames, however we have no doubt that the teams would have made it to Westminster had the race not been stopped. For their efforts over Easter weekend our top team came 3rd in the Junior Teams and School’s Team category, against stiff competition from other schools and canoe clubs.

The experience has been truly exceptional and is something these young people will remember fondly for many years to come.
