On Wednesday 6 October, Churcher's Junior School U11 A team went to the Hampshire ISFA U11 Regional Football Tournament, hoping to progress through to the final 24 teams in the country to play at the England training ground at St George's Park.
Churcher's were in a group of 6 with Stroud School (Romsey), Walhampton School (Lymington), Bedales (Petersfield), Surbiton High (Kingston) and Twyford prep (Winchester). The team got off to a flying start in the group with 2-0, 6-0, 2-0 and 2-0 wins against Stroud, Walhampton, Bedales and Surbiton High, respectively and a 1-1 draw with Twyford.
After a 5-4 penalty shootout win in the Quarter-Final and a 4-3 shootout win in the Semi-Final, Churcher's progressed into the Final.
In the Final we faced a very well-drilled and star-studded Downsend (Leatherhead) side. Despite a superb goal from Will Dean from near his own halfway line, the final score ended 3-1 to Downsend.
Due to the Hampshire region having a large number of participating teams this year, it was announced at the presentation that Churcher's would also be progressing into the final 24 teams from across the country as the strongest runner up, awarded at the discretion of the ISFA.
Churcher's not only played extremely well throughout the tournament, but the whole squad showed exemplary sportsmanship and resilience and can be proud of their achievement in reaching the last 24 teams in the country! Well done! The Final round will take place at St George's Park on Tuesday 3rd May 2022.
