Emotion coaching is an evidence-based, step by step approach to helping children learn to cope with feelings and develop their resilience.

The talk provided an opportunity for the experts to share clear and practical tools to help build parents skills and confidence for their children’s resilience and emotional well-being.

The speakers advised parents to view children’s emotional expression as an opportunity to teach, to listen empathically to help them feel ‘heard and held’ and to help them name their emotions before problem-solving to find new ways to cope with big feelings.

The event was hosted by the approachable, friendly and knowledgeable Dr. Sarah Wilson & Dr. Kate Robinson, Clinical Psychologists from ‘Raising Resilience’ and included the opportunity to quiz the pair on individuals’ own questions, which many participants on the video call found useful. As one parent said: “Every parent needs this!”

We all found the strategies most insightful - even more so in the current climate - and a huge thanks also to the Parents' Association for enabling this event to take place.

Sarah and Kate said:

“It was such a pleasure to join Churchers College to give parents skills and confidence, particularly during this most difficult time.  We loved the opportunity to answer the thoughtful questions posed by parents, touching on so many other areas from Clinical Psychology.  Thank you to Headteacher, Mrs Robinson and the wonderful PA for this opportunity and please get in touch if we can help further”.
