Nelson’s Paper Boats

Helping Syrian refugees to settle in this country is the aim of Nelson’s House Charity for this year: The Rural Refugee Network.

To raise money and awareness of the plight of the refugees, 1N made a giant paper boat, decorated with news articles and stories of the humanitarian crisis. It was then filled with smaller paper boats, representing those who have fled their country in what are often very dangerous ways, such is their desperation.

All the pupils in Nelson took part in a mass paper boat-making exercise in their House Assembly, and donated money to have their boat entered into a prize draw. 1N then toured the Lower School, collecting boats and pledges from other Houses.

Five prize winning boats were then selected and the ‘owners’ received an edible reward.

Further fundraising activities are planned with the RRN.
