Churcher’s College Junior School celebrated the wonders of STEAM  - Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths -  in ‘STEAM Week’.

Pupils had the opportunity to find out all they want to know about STEAM with talks, projects and hands-on experience.

The week began with inspirational scientist and speaker, Ian Russell, who shared his contagious delight in phenomena with the whole Junior School.   Ian presented a fast-moving and entertaining demonstration of simple but spectacular experiments using everyday materials to create memorial results!  During the week he also shared magical gigantic bubbles in the playground and helped Year 5 launch rockets to astounding heights.

Parents joined the children throughout the week as they worked on their science exhibits.  Year 4 produced working robots, Year 6 took charge of the iPad explanations for each exhibit which were linked to QR codes and Reception thought about science under the sea!

Ffion Robinson, Head of Churcher’s College Junior School and Nursery, said:

STEAM is embedded into the core curriculum here and it’s good for pupils to see how it is connected to everything in the wider world.  We want to inspire and motivate interest in these subjects.   Encouraging excitement in these areas will help produce the next Albert Einstein or Steve Jobs, brilliant at science and creative thinking.
