This week, we have been celebrating our love of languages with a variety of events for pupils to get involved in and enjoy.
On Tuesday pupils from across the senior school took part in an ‘International Bake Off’ and we were delighted to welcome ‘Great British Bake Off’ finalist Miranda Gore Browne to school to judge the delicious entries. Miranda was dazzled by the high standard and creative variety of the 22 cakes on entered hoping to win one of the prizes.
Miranda said:
I am so impressed! Everyone deserves huge praise for their fantastic efforts!
It was a challenge to decide the winners, the prizes went to:
‘Star Baker’ and overall winner – awarded to Maisie for her exceptional, all-white Arc de Triomphe cake - bravo!
The ‘Show Stopper’ – won by Gabriela and Isabel for their Icelandic Chocolate Volcano cake.
Best for creative & Technical excellence – won by Anthony for his Armenian Honey cake.
Special Mention ‘Show Stopper’ – won by Edith for her Japanese cake with chocolate trees.
On Wednesday, Third Year pupils enjoyed a continental breakfast and languages quiz. The competition was very close and the top two teams were only separated by ONE point! The winning team of Zara, Tristan, Oliver, Finley, Fergus and Jessie enjoyed a delicious chocolate prize - well done!
There has also been a ‘Love Languages’ poster competition this week, with pupils tasked with showcasing different languages and cultures from around the world and many creative and inspired posters were entered.
First prize went to Maisie in 1G for her eco-friendly presentation on cardboard and the convivial messages around languages including different cultures, eating amazing food and travelling the world making friends.
Runners-up were Mia in 2R and Emily in 1C. They each win Amazon vouchers and their posters will join our poster ‘hall of fame’!
We rounded off events with a tasty ‘European Lunch’ with the opportunity to sample delicacies from different countries.
What a great week, we can definitely say that a love for learning languages is strong at Churcher’s!
