Richard Churcher and the Captains

According to the records, an annual pilgrimage, certainly since the early days of the last century if not many decades/centuries before that, is the first official duty of the incoming Captains of College who visit the grave of our founder, Richard Churcher, in Funtington to lay a wreath and say “thank you”.

Tildy Billsberry-Grass and Jake Haldenby were elected by their peers to be Captains of College for 2018/2019 and Headmaster Simon Williams had the pleasure of joining them in representing the whole school.

A nineteenth century copy of Richard Churcher’s Will, under which the College was founded in 1722, can be seen in a fascinating archives display inside the entrance of New College, should any visitors wish to read it.
