Reigate Grammar School was in pole position for the second year running at the first MUN conference of the season.

15 students, ranging from Third Year to Upper Sixth, barely had time to break in their new school shoes before busily preparing their research to represent Serbia, Argentina, and Haiti on 7 October.

A wide range of committees debated key global issues from the Civil War in Yemen, Reliability on the Banking Sector, Protecting Indigenous Communities and how to prevent the Financing of Terrorism.

Our numbers grew to 18 for our second conference in November. Model United Nations seemed to have more poignancy against the backdrop of remembrance, which was observed, with the United Nations' own creation being a result of the two World Wars. Hosted by the Royal Grammar School, this time we were representing Australia and Ethiopia. Topics were again very wide-ranging, from the Great Pacific Garbage Patch to Cultural Erosion, not to mention the last-minute crisis of an ‘invasion’ in the South China Sea!

Our delegates demonstrated superb research and debating skills, with the following students receiving Highly Commended awards: Freya, Martha, Jess, and Joe. Special mention must go to Martha and Jess, who managed to pass an amendment to a resolution in the Human Rights Committee - exceptional.
