70% of pupils get outdoors and adventurous this term.

Despite the Covid challenges of 2020, the outdoor adventure opportunities at Churcher’s College are already back up and running with a full programme of activities. 665 pupils, which represents 70% of the Senior School, aged between 11 to 18 years, have been outdoors developing new skills and challenging themselves on adventurous activities this term, with many involved in two or more activities regularly across a six-week period.

Andy Rowley, Head of Adventurous Activities, explains: “Churcher’s College enjoys a strong reputation for its outdoor programme, which provides pupils in every year group with a huge and rewarding range of opportunities and experiences. Right now it is arguably more important than ever to get pupils back outside and we have worked hard to find ways for them to experience the wonderful outdoors. This not only provides challenges and fun with friends but also as a proven route to relieving pressure and appreciating our planet - all vital right now. We are very proud of our participation rate and the 'have a go' attitude of our pupils, it is a great example of what it means to be a Churcherian.”

More About Adventure at Churcher’s

The Adventurous Activities programme at Churcher’s runs throughout each pupil’s school journey. The programme builds steadily, instilling practical and social skills, step-by-step, with progressively larger opportunities and expeditions open to students as they advance through school, using their ever-growing skills and experiences gained along the way.

Alongside regular trips beyond the classroom and school grounds, students are able to swim, scuba dive, climb, run and more using the 25m indoor swimming pool, large climbing wall and acres of green space.

Crucial to the success of the programme is the outstanding commitment of a huge team of parent helpers and school staff, across the full range of activities, challenges and experiences on offer. Without this special team of skilled, enthusiastic and dedicated parents and staff, very little would be possible.

New volunteers are always welcome; if you would like to join the team or become involved in helping with our programme, please get in touch
