At the end of last term the Second Years had a fantastic sun filled day on the Isle of Wight, exploring historical sites, going to the beach and eating ice creams!
Our first stop was Carisbrooke Castle, where pupils saw the initial Motte and Bailey Castle and then its transformation into a much larger Stone keep castle.
They all found the room from where King Charles I tried (and failed) to escape from during the English Civil war. We then visited Osborne House, a Victorian Italianate Mansion, and saw both the state rooms where Queen Victoria entertained, as well as the more private areas such as the nursery where her nine children played and slept.
A fascinating part of the house was the Durbar Room, designed to resemble a princely residence in India and extol Queen Victoria’s virtues as Empress of India. It was both a very educational and thoroughly enjoyable day.
