On Monday 25 June the U13A Churcher’s cricket team played Portsmouth Grammar School (PGS) in the County Cup Final at Hillsea.

Winning the toss Churcher’s chose to bat on a slow wicket with a fast outfield. Tremendous batting performances from Joel Lewis and Jude Wright helped us to a healthy total of 171. PGS started batting strongly and looked to be getting on top of the run rate until James Restell stemmed the flow with a magnificent 5-over spell.

A fantastic run out by Henry Bowen and Liam Glazebrook dislodged their key batsman and from there we were able to see off the game with PGS managing 154 in reply.

Churcher’s College were worthy winners after a magnificent season.

Rob Maier, Head of Cricket at Churcher's College, said:

“It has been an incredible season for the U13A team and winning 9 out of 10 games shows how difficult they have been making life for the opposing teams.

The cherry on the top is, of course, winning the Hampshire cup and boys showed excellent composure and game awareness in a tightly fought fixture. I hope the boys enjoyed their season as much as we have enjoyed watching them develop and I hope that they can maintain the outstanding desire and work ethic that has served them so well up to now.

They are indeed Churcher's College flagship cricket team for 2018!”
