Student wins the 2018/19 Daniel Day-Lewis Prize

The Petersfield Town Mayor's Annual Awards for 2018/19 for drama this year was won by Churcher’s College pupil, Nikolai Gibbins.  Also shortlisted for the town’s prestigious drama prize from Churcher’s College were Oliver Fogelin, Adam Tutt and Halcyon Sheen, all of whom achieved commendations. 

The Daniel Day-Lewis Prize, named after the Oscar winning actor who was educated in Petersfield, is an award for young artistic performers who have displayed such that they stand out.  The prize is the complete works of Shakespeare with a letter signed by Daniel Day-Lewis.

14 year old Nikolai is a Junior Member of Winton Players where he has appeared in a huge variety of productions across a number of years.  In addition to the roles he has undertaken, he has shown kindness and mentoring of other junior performers. 

“I can't quite believe I've won this award!  Thank you to everyone that has supported me over the years and all your kind comments.  I've had so much fun in many different plays and pantos,” said Nikolai.  “I am looking forward to my next role playing the Pied Piper in the upcoming Winton Players One Acts."

Stacey Carty, Head of Drama at Churcher’s College, added: “Nikolai has done really well against some very tough competition including three older Churcher’s students Adam, Halcyon and Oliver who are also very talented which only serves to underpin how well he has done!  Many congratulations from the whole team at Churcher's!”
