The junior girls team (Lottie Jackson, Isabella Liedtke, Tabi Steiner and Kitty Hogg) took gold in both events, as did the junior boys team (Alex Paton, Will Cowling, Max Cropley and Julius Uprichard). The Inter girls team put in respectable swims, finishing second in both relays and the two senior teams performed well to finish third. The talented inter boys team of James Medley, Kai Jackson, Henry Plewes and Alexander Sandberg are perhaps the Churcher’s squad most likely to reach the Relay finals at the Olympic Park, taking two golds and posting times of 1.52.78 in the 4x50m freestyle and 2.07.28 in the medley relay. It really could be down to hundredths of a second, we are keeping everything crossed that we have done enough to qualify!
With over 4000 eligible swimmers in Hampshire fighting for just 30 team places, it was a fantastic achievement for Lottie Jackson to be selected for the Hampshire team to compete in the National County Team Championship. This is an annual swim event, that takes place in front of a packed house at Sheffield’s Ponds Forge. More than 1200 swimmers from 37 counties competed, with races going on in two pools at the same time.
Lottie, a second year pupil who swims for Alton and District Swimming Club, is currently the U14 Hampshire County Champion for 100m fly and 200m fly. On Sunday 7th October, she competed in the 100m fly and in the 4x50m Medley Relay on the butterfly leg. Hampshire placed 6th in their division and Lottie swam a short course PB for her 100m fly, posting a time of 1.10.87. After the event she said “the atmosphere was just amazing. I was really proud to be part of the team.”
A wonderful achievement Lottie, well done!
Waterpolo at Churcher’s in certainly on the rise. It has been great to see the increasing numbers at training sessions on Wednesday and Thursday lunchtimes; this has led to more fixtures being added to the school calendar. I am also delighted to to report that four of our senior Churcher’s player, Alexander Sandberg, Henry Plewes, Rory Plewes and Kai Jackson, have been invited to train with the South East Regional Squad.
Congratulations boys!
On 16th September, Henry Plewes, (4th year) competed for South Central England Triathlon as one of four boys his age in the Inter Regional Championships (IRCs as they are known). South Central Region went on to win Gold for the relays, which was the first time they have been run at the British Championships. Each competitor completes a short triathlon including an open water swim where Henry had the fastest swim of the day in his age group out of the 52 male triathletes competing. A fantastic achievement Henry!
