Pastoral Life & Care

Pastoral Care at the School

Aims

We have four main aims for our pastoral care

  1. To work in partnership with parents to promote the academic, social, moral and spiritual well-being of each of our pupils.
  2. To build up relationships of trust with our pupils and parents
  3. Pupils and parents should feel able to raise issues of concern knowing that they will be dealt with sensitively and confidentially when the need arises.
  4. To encourage the development of self-discipline, personal integrity and mutual tolerance amongst our pupils.

Structure

Under the Headmaster is the Deputy Head (Pastoral) who has overall responsibility for all aspects of pastoral care at the school.  There is a vertical house structure with five houses; each with a Head of House who has responsibility for all members of the House.  Within each House is a Form in each year group which is overseen by a Form Tutor who deals with the day-to-day issues of approx 24 tutees and who is the first contact point for parents.

Running parallel to the House system is a team of Curriculum Support which contain specialist teachers to help those with specific learning difficulties and a “Springboard” co-ordinator who supports Heads of House and Form Tutors with students whose behaviour/motivation with respect to academic work requires intervention but where specific learning difficulties have not been identified.

Within the House there is a well established peer mentoring system with older 6th Form students assigned as House Prefects to establish close relationships with the younger pupils.

The Heads of House and Form Tutor are in constant contact through House Meetings and regular Tutor Meetings.  The Deputy Head has a weekly working breakfast with the Heads of House to discuss pastoral issues. Twice termly there is a full Heads of House Meeting with the Headmaster and other pastoral personnel such as Matrons, Curriculum Support, the Head of PSHE and G & T staff.
